The decrease in power is due to the deletion of variable valve timing and OBDII, and this is noticable in the 96 TT's mid range torque curve. The peak numbers are still about the same but might occur at a slightly different rpm. But by all means, an equally kept model of an earlier year will outpull an equal 96. The 96 had most of kinks worked out. The 96 Z tranny is by far the best one on a Z32. Its a great one to collect, but doesn't have all the mod support yet (Still a lot can be done on the car)..... Who knows if it will ever get the mod support like earlier year Zs. (however that can be changed with an ECU housing swap with an older one) Good luck,
